Operation Encompass

Supporting Children Following Domestic Abuse Incidents

We are proud to be an Operation Encompass School.
Operation Encompass is a national initiative that supports children and young people who may have experienced domestic abuse. It enables schools to provide immediate support to pupils who have been affected by incidents that occur outside of school.
Through Operation Encompass, the police will notify the school's designated safeguarding lead before the start of the next school day when a child has been present during, witnessed, or been affected by a domestic abuse incident. This information is shared securely and confidentially to ensure that appropriate support can be offered to the child at school.
Why is Operation Encompass Important?
Children exposed to domestic abuse can be significantly affected emotionally, socially, and academically.
Early information sharing allows us to:
  • Provide emotional support when it is needed most.
  • Understand changes in behaviour or wellbeing.
  • Ensure children feel safe and supported in school.
  • Work alongside families and other agencies to promote positive outcomes.
  • Safeguarding is embedded into our daily routines, interactions and decision-making — not treated as a standalone process.
    Confidentiality
Information shared through Operation Encompass is treated in the strictest confidence and is only shared with appropriate members of staff on a need-to-know basis.
    Our Commitment
As an Operation Encompass School, we are committed to:
  • Supporting the welfare and wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Working in partnership with parents, carers, police, and external agencies.
  • Providing a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive.
